Application Areas

Archeology & Forensics

Archaeologists world wide apply the GPR method on projects to obtain non-invasive subsurface information from the Pyramids of Egypt to the rain forests of South America and everywhere in-between. GPR provides archaeologist’s with a tool to image otherwise completely indistinguishable features from the surface.

Roadways and Transportation Infrastructure

The MALÅ RoadCart system is an extremely portable and cost-effective ground coupled platform that has multi-channel and multi-frequency capabilities ranging from 250 MHz to 2.3 GHz.

Borehole

Borehole GPR is a powerful tool often used to obtain information at depth for formation characterization. Borehole radar can be used in different modes; reflection, cross hole, and surface-to-borehole. Typical applications include Fracture Characterization, Foundation Studies, Karst Evaluation and Cavity Detection.

Concrete NDT & Civil Engineering

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) professionals routinely use GPR for a number of applications. GPR requires minimal training, poses no health risks from emissions, and can be used on any surface. For example slabs on grade or other surfaces where both sides cannot be accessed may not be scanned with x-ray.  Results with MALÅ’s CX series are obtained in real time in the field.

Environmental

Assessing sites for hidden environmental hazards such as underground storage tanks, buried drums, landfills, trenches, abandoned pits and lagoons is routine in the environmental assessment industry. GPR for the past two decades has been an integral part of subsurface investigations from large contaminated industrial sites to street corner petrol stations with leaking underground storage tanks.

Geological & Mining

Geologists and geophysicists rely on ground penetrating radar to gather high resolution subsurface information rapidly. Compared to other geophysical methods nothing comes close in terms of the amount of ground coverage that is obtained with GPR.

Ice & Snow Measurement

Ice and snow thickness measurements are routinely measured with Mala GPR systems. Ice roads are an essential mode of transportation in northern regions to support mining and petroleum operations.

Utility Detection & Mapping

GPR is an essential locate tool for the detection and mapping of non-metallic non-conductive utilities. GPR became main stream for utility detection and mapping when Mala introduced the Easy Locator in the 1990’s.
